Suite Française (Irène Némirovsky)

Irène Némirovsky intended to write the story of the war that was going on around her. Germany defeated France after a mere six weeks and was now occupying half of the country, while the other half was controlled by the malevolent Vichy government. Némirovsky and her family were caught in the middle. She had planned to write a five-part novel, but completed just two of the sections before she was arrested and transported to Auschwitz.
